Guyana Goldfields Receives Affirmative Metallurgical Test Results
TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Feb. 23, 2006) - Guyana Goldfields Inc. (TSX:GUY) announces the result of metallurgical testing conducted on samples from its Aurora Gold project, located in Guyana, South America. The testing was conducted by SGS Lakefield Research Laboratory of Lakefield, Ontario under the supervision of Mr. Les Heymann, P.Eng., metallurgical consultant to Guyana Goldfields Inc.
Six composite 5-kg samples, each representing different "field- classified" types of mineralization were collected from coarse drill core rejects representing 15 holes located in 3 different zones of the Property. From these 5-kg samples, the laboratory took a 1-kg portion for Carbon in Leach Bottle Roll testing. The testing was done in triplicates.
The objective of the test is to determine if the gold from each of the zones on the Property can be leached using conventional cyanidation conditions.
Salient test results are tabulated below: (a)

(a) The more detailed test report by Mr. Les Heymann is available in the Guyana Goldfields website (http://www.guygold.com/Aurora.php).
There was close agreement between the triplicate test runs. In most cases the cyanide stopped being consumed after about 6 hours, indicating a relatively short leach time.
The assayed and calculated head values are in many cases in close agreement indicating that test was well done. In the cases of G05121 and G5126, the disparity between the two values are attributed to "nugget effect" often found in gold deposits.
Cyanide and lime consumptions are in normal range.
Mr. Heymann concludes that the material tested "appears not to be refractory and might be expected to yield 92% recoveries under very normal cyanide leach conditions."
Further metallurgical testing will be done in the future as exploration and development work progresses on the Aurora Gold project.
