Former World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation Light-Welterweight Champion Amir Khan is still awaiting the fate of his rematch against current champion Lamont Peterson.
The terms of a deal between Khan and Peterson over a rematch hasn't been settled yet, with the current champion preferring to wait until an appeal over a demand for a new fight is over.
"Right now our efforts are focused on the appeal to the World Boxing Association (WBA)," said a spokesperson from the Peterson camp.
"We are patiently awaiting a decision. Once that's done and Lamont is finally in receipt of his WBA belt then we will shift the focus to who he fights next," the statement added.
Richard Schaefer, Khan's US-based promoter, had earlier said that Peterson's camp had promised a reply over a rematch on Thursday, The BBC reports.t is quite evident for now that Peterson camp doesn't not intend to agree for another fight until and unless they find out the result of their on going appeal against the WBA's decision to grant Khan a rematch for the world title.
Schaefer informed that last week only a new proposal was made in front of Peterson, which would see revenues from the fight shared equally between both parties.Team Khan would agree to a 50-50 split of worldwide revenues derived from a rematch (including those derived from the United Kingdom) should Mr Peterson agree to participate," said a statement from Schaefer's company, Golden Boy Promotions.
The WBA had ordered a rematch earlier this month, which provided Peterson with 180 days to agree terms with Khan for a new fight. (ANI)
