Uribe denounced Venezuelan president over attack claims
    Arizona Herald
    Sunday 1st August, 2010

The president of Colombia, Alvaro Uribe, has vehemently denied his country is planning an attack on neighbouring Venezuela.

President Uribe has denounced the Venezuelan president after Hugo Chavez ordered his own troops to the border in response to the supposed attack plan.

Mr Uribe has said Colombia had never even thought of attacking the "brotherly people" of the Republic of Colombia.

While labelling Chavez's accusations as "deceptive," he also said Bogota would follow the application of international law to ensure Venezuela was not harbouring Colombian terrorists.

Bogota recently claimed that around 1,500 leftist Colombian rebels were being given shelter in Venezuela.

After denying the allegation, Mr Chavez ordered his troops to deploy to the border and broke off diplomatic relations with Colombia, saying he had become concerned at "the threat of war."
